Pelo que tenho visto no meu dia a dia e lido em vários blogs e sites, além de alguns conselhos sobre como começar a carreira de tradutor (comecei a pesquisar sobre isso algum tempo depois de já estar trabalhando como tradutora profissional), destaquei alguns pontos que são importantes:
PESQUISAR – Leiam e pesquisem tudo o que puderem sobre tradução para ter a certeza se é isso que querem fazer. Conheço algumas pessoas que “se aventuraram” na área e acabaram desistindo por acharem que é uma carreia muito solitária. Pesquisem também os jargões utilizados na profissão para que não fiquem perdidos. Uma outra dica é ouvir o TradCast – o primeiro podcast brasileiro de tradução, pois há várias discussões sobre temas da área.
ESTUDAR – Pensar que basta ter um pouco de conhecimento sobre algum idioma pode o suficiente para ser tradutor é um erro tremendo! Para ser um tradutor profissional, é importante dominar tanto o idioma materno como o estrangeiro para que haja qualidade no trabalho.
CAT – é importante aprender a usar alguma CAT, pois muitas agências dão preferência ao tradutor que sabe utilizar algumas delas. Para conhecer e verificar como funciona, aconselho que façam o download de uma gratuita, como o Omega T. Dizem que o Wordfast tem uma versão gratuita, mas ainda não consegui encontrar.
CV – Outro detalhe importante é ter um bom currículo, e de preferencia voltado para a área que deseja trabalhar, que neste caso é a tradução. Neste post você pode encontrar um modelo de como criar o seu currículo.PERFIL – Muitos tradutores começam a carreia como freelancer, e para isso, é preciso aparecer! Crie perfis em alguns sites como LinkeIn, ProZ, Empreendemia, Freela, Translators Café, GetNinjas, Tradutores, TRAG, Translation Directory e outros que não lembro agora, mas prometo que conforme for lembrando, postarei.Para finalizar esse post, quero lembrar a todos que apesar da tradução ser uma profissão não regulamentada, você não deve pensar nessa carreira apenas como um bico. A tabela do Sintra só pode ser usada como referência para clientes diretos. Se você estiver trabalhando para uma agência de tradução, os valores são bem mais baixos, e você pode calcular usando as fórmulas dos posts "Quanto devo cobrar".

Gleidson, é só pegar texto de áreas com as quais você já está acostumado, e conversar com o cliente/agência sobre o prazo. Se você acha que não vai conseguir, negocie um prazo maior. 😉

Foram ótimas dicas. Mas as duas dicas sobre curriculum e perfil presumem um tradutor que já tenha experiência. E aqueles que como eu não tiveram experiência alguma e desejam iniciar essa carreira?
Que bom que gostou das dicas, Josiane! E vou dar mais uma para responder sua pergunta. O fato de não ter experiência não quer dizer que não possa fazer um perfil em redes sociais e um currículo voltado para a área de tradução. Você deverá colocar todas as informações sobre você e as áreas (dentro da tradução) que você gosta ou pretende trabalhar. Se já fez algum curso extra voltado para legendagem ou gosta de alguma área mais técnica para traduzir, mencione! Enfim, caso saiba utilizar alguma CAT, também pode informar. E a experiência vai surgir com o tempo.
É importantíssimo que você tenha os perfis sempre atualizados e que participe de grupos de tradutores, pois às vezes aparecem oportunidades de trabalho por lá e envie currículo para agências de tradução.
