No dia 21 de novembro pude participar de um evento de tradução muito bom aqui no Rio de Janeiro: o Café com Tradução. Para a nossa surpresa, nesse dia choveu muito, mas mesmo assim o local estava bem cheio. Confesso que pensei em desistir, mas como sou persistente, decidi que ficaria até o final do evento (mesmo tendo chegado totalmente molhada). Ainda bem que não desisti no meio do caminho, porque o evento foi muito bom!!!!
Às 9h a professora Meritxell fez a abertura do evento e mencionou alguns pontos muito importantes sobre a nossa profissão, dentre eles o fato de que o tradutor é um eterno aprendiz: precisamos estudar constantemente, fazer cursos de aperfeiçoamento, não apenas da língua estrangeira, mas também da nossa língua materna. Outro ponto interessante abordado pela professora é que nós temos que tomar decisões constantemente, e para isso é preciso estudar para ter mais confiança ao enfrentar novos desafios.

1ª Palestra: CATs – não é da modalidade peluda – Val Ivonica
Como este evento foi voltado para os tradutores que estão começando a carreira, a Val explicou a diferença entre CAT e MT (se você ainda não sabe a diferença, clique aqui).
Val mostrou várias CATs diferentes para que pudéssemos ver como as interfaces mudam, e foi explicando como podemos usá-las.
Diante de tantas CATs diferentes, os iniciantes geralmente querem saber qual é a melhor, e ouvi uma resposta que me pareceu perfeita: “A melhor ferramente é a que vai aumentar o teu rendimento e te fazer produzir mais e melhor. Não precisa ser sempre a mesma.” – Val Ivonica.

2ª Palestra: Tradutor: empresário e empreendedor – Dicas para quem está dando os primeiros passos – Fernanda Rocha
Lembro que quando vi essa palestra na programação fiquei doida!!! Esse é um tema que costuma gerar muitas dúvidas em todos nós; não importa se o tradutor é iniciante ou experiente.
A Fernanda trouxe a definição de empresário e de empreendedor: O primeiro é a pessoa que se estabelece como empresa . O segundo é aquele que empreende, que se aventura à realização de coisas difíceis ou fora do comum, ativo, arrojado.
Algo muito importante que foi ressaltado na palestra é que independente de você ter uma empresa ou não, você é a sua empresa. O cliente o verá como prestador de serviço.
E para finalizar, um assunto que não poderia faltar é a questão do pagamento, um tema muito discutido pelos tradutores, e gostaria de ressaltar a fala da Fernanda: “Ficar sofrendo porque o mercado paga mal não fará com que você tenha sucesso. Abra a sua mente! Não se prenda ao valor dos outros.”
E para fechar a palestra, Fernanda citou uma frase do Gregório Duvivier: “Quem faz o seu mercado de trabalho é você!” – lembre-se disso.

3ª Palestra: Mercado e processo editorial – Petê Rissatti
Eu, particularmente, não tenho interesse em trabalhar com tradução editorial, mas peguei as dicas e informações dadas pelo Petê para passar para vocês, afinal, há pessoas que gostam e preferem trabalhar com essa área.
O Petê começou a palestra informando que podemos encontrar grupos editoriais, editoras de médio porte e pequenas editoras, no entanto, é preciso analisar com qual delas você pretende trabalhar, pois nem sempre é possível pegar muitos projetos de editoras grandes, e estas talvez nem sempre darão projetos suficientes para que você consiga um bom salário no final do mês. Já as editoras de médio porte aceitam negociar tarifas e têm maior constância de trabalho. Com as editoras pequenas, você pode ter um contato mais próximo com o editor e até mesmo com o autor.
Uma dica muito importante, não apenas para quem trabalha com tradução editorial, mas para qualquer área é “não tenha todos os ovos em um único cesto.” Sempre busque novas editoras, agências, clientes, pois caso algum deles pare de enviar trabalho, você terá outros para manter seu faturamento no final do mês.
O processo de tradução de um livro é bem demorado, pois a sua tradução passará por revisão, diagramação, revisão da diagramação, revisão de prova, e então, será enviada para a gráfica.

4ª Palestra: Quanto vale meu trabalho? Como calcular o valor por palavra – William Cassemiro
Esse tema também é um dos que mais geram dúvidas, principalmente para os tradutores iniciantes. Como eu queria que alguém tivesse me ensinado isso quando eu estava começando…
Mais importante do que sair em busca de clientes é saber quanto cobrar pelo nosso serviço, para que tenhamos essa resposta quando solicitarem orçamento. E mais importante ainda do que simplesmente chutar uma tarifa por palavra, é saber de fato qual deve ser essa tarifa.
Eu já fiz um vídeo ensinando uma fórmula, e no Café com Tradução o William ensinou mais uma!
Como assuntos com números muitas vezes são complicados para o pessoal de letras/humanas (rs), achei que seria melhor fazer um post inteiro dedicado a esse assunto para colocar o passo a passo da fórmula que o William nos ensinou. Quem quiser aprender, é só clicar aqui.
